Follies is in full swing
Within two weeks of the reservation phone line opening, the house
for Calaveras Follies is already more than half full. “We are
thrilled to see how quickly people are reserving their seats for
this year’s Follies,” reported Kathryn Eustis, Director of Youth
Development and Prevention Programs for the Calaveras County Office
of Education and overseer of the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program.
“This is our big fundraiser for the Youth Mentoring Program, and we
are working hard to put on the best show ever.”
The sixth annual Calaveras Follies takes place April 17, 2010 at
Mark Twain Hall in Frogtown. This year’s show features the largest
cast ever – 86 Calaveras personalities - lip-synching hilarious
renditions of songs about their future, entitled “The Commencement
Performance.” In addition, guests at the Follies will be
entertained by an unprecedented number of 22 acts. “This year’s
cast includes some well-known and very talented performers, some
returning veterans and some brave newcomers,” said Marian Coahran,
Show Producer. “The burgeoning list of returnees includes Mike
Croshaw, Lucy Thein, Marti Crane, Gary Tofanelli, Darrell and
Kristy Slocum, and Isabel Lyle.
Newcomers to the Follies stage include Dr. Tim and Vicky O’Connor,
Ron and Linda Lawrence, Mark Campbell, Kenny and Tammy Lee, Allen
Arnold, Dale Baker, Mona Emerson, and Janelle Peterson. A trio from
Arnold – Clint Babb, Norm Friborg and Harry Tittle – sold more than
four full tables.” “Also new this year is the opportunity to vote
for your favorite act before the Follies,” Coahran added. Each vote
costs $5.00, and supporters are encouraged to vote as many times as
they wish. For acts, cast and voting information, visit online at
http://calaverasfollies.com.
A special award will be presented after the show to the act that
generates the most votes.
Reservations for the Calaveras Follies can be made by calling (209)
536-6302. Admission to the Follies is still $50 per person (credit
cards accepted). There is reserved seating so the sooner
reservations are made, the better the seats. Included in the
evening festivities are gourmet appetizers, no-host bar, and an
elegant raffle of gift baskets, a total value of more than $6,000.
As is the Follies tradition, “Frog Oscars” will be bestowed upon
the best of the best after audience votes are tallied.
Calaveras Follies is presented by Calaveras Youth Mentoring
volunteers, Frogtown and Murphys Creek Theatre. Major sponsors
include the Calaveras County Office of Education, Jillian Day Spa &
Salon, Mother Lode Bank, and Salon 66. For information on the
