Fright Fest at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom!
By Jennifer Benton
Staff Writer

This Halloween proved extremely busy for our family but we knew we couldn’t miss out on Fright Fest. In the past we’ve taken our two older children but this year and after multiple trips to Comic Con, we decided our youngest was ready to partake in some good old fashioned Halloween fun. I am delighted to report that there were many fun “non-scary” festive activities to enjoy such as trick-or-treating, cookie decorating and larger than life characters dressed in their Halloween best.

The children’s rides were open and the children delighted in riding in their costumes. The thrills went on during the day but come nightfall the zombies, ghouls, and monsters were on the loose. The water in the fountain turned to blood and the undead began to dance in the square. My daughter Jaina was mesmerized by the zombie dancers and loved the music. There were mazes, street performers and haunted houses to tantalize your fears.

There were five new haunted attractions this year: Haunted Attractions Nightmare Manor, Pig Farm, Shipwreck of Horror, Last Ride and Zombie Zones Scrap Yard of the Dead! These attractions are sure to get your heart beating and I fled for the exit eyes wide and breathing labored. I was so terrified! These attractions are not suitable for small children as they may cause gruesome nightmares. There is an additional fee for a wristband which allows you to enter all of the haunted attractions.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom has many family-friendly events throughout the year including Sharks in the Dark where you get to sleep in the Shark Experience Exhibit and even dissect a squid! You can sign up to swim with a dolphin for a close up and personal experience or feed a dolphin, giraffe or sea lion in one of the Wildlife Encounters. This 135-acre theme park is the only one in Northern California which combines marine life, wild life, and amazing rides.
