Hilarious Musical Comedy! “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change”
A Review by Anna Lisa Poganski

The humorous Cosmopolitan Cabaret production of "I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change" runs through November 18, 2012 at the Cosmopolitan Cabaret, in Sacramento, CA. Performed by an enthusiastic cast of four, Michael Dotson, Jerry Lee, Jennifer Malenke, and Melissa WolfKlain, with exuberant piano accompaniment and interludes by Graham Sobelman, this show was produced by the Executive Producer, Richard Lewis, with Artistic Director Glenn Casale, Associate Producer Marlene Shire-Anderson, and the assistance of talented supporters. Story and lyrics were written by Joe DiPietro, with music by Jimmy Roberts. The show premiered in New Jersey in 1995 and in New York City’s, Off-Broadway, Westside Theatre in 1996, where thousands of performances were given and seen; it was then translated into fourteen plus languages, and shared around the world. There is a wow factor when listening to and watching this show, an immediacy of fast paced, amusing, clever and playful humor that has you hooked right from the start, whether you relate to the exhibited relationships playing out, on a near surface or deep level experience. The four actors portray more than a dozen different characters. It is surprising how the dialogue that goes on in our heads is transferred into a script and played out on stage. The spirited performances gives the audience many things to relate to. There were numerous goofy, funny, laugh-out-loud and charming, endearing, sweet, 'ah' moments. The music, with great vocals and accompaniment, and the dialogue with skilled acting, were compatible and effective in uniting the presentation. The show gives audiences a connection and/or comparison to themselves, and to society; it rejuvenates them from within to relate to it all with humor. The audience gave a standing ovation at the end of the show, and I am sure that some audience members will see the show again. Photo by Charr Crail.
