San Andreas Movers & Shakers Support Group
to Learn About Disability Resource Agency

proACTIVE parkinsons project to host Wellness Retreat for Patients & Caregivers

The Parkinson's Disease and neurological support group, "San Andreas Movers & Shakers...it's not OUR fault!" will meet on Tuesday, June 3rd at the Calaveras Senior Center, 956 Mountain Ranch Road, from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon. The program will include a presentation of art created by group member Cindy Deluz, who works in watercolors and acrylic paints, collages, photography and makes hand-crafted jewelry. Cindy's photography is on display at The Parkinson's Institute in Sunnyvale, California and her many delightful, joyful creations can be found on her website, www.apurpledaisy.com.

The group will discuss the upcoming Wellness Retreat, to be held on Thursday, June 26th at the Calaveras Senior Center. Two workshops will go on simultaneously: "Patients...be caring" and "Caregivers...be patient." The retreat will start with coffee and registration at 9:30 am, with the first workshop starting at 10:00 am. Both groups will break for lunch at noon at the Senior Center then will start the afternoon sessions at 1:00 pm. Anyone suffering from a chronic medical condition or who is a caregiver for someone with a chronic disorder may attend if space allows. There is NO COST for patients and caregivers, and lunch will be provided at no charge. Seating for the retreat is limited, so anyone wishing to attend should call [209] 296-2575 immediately to RSVP.

Retreat sessions will include the use of "I" statements, stress reduction techniques, safe chair exercises for fitness, guided meditation, chair and hand yoga, massage and other ways for patients and caregivers to be kind to each other. Nobody plans to have a serious, long-term illness! Often patients suffer from disease while their caregivers suffer from the responsibility of being "on duty" for extended time periods. The Wellness Retreat is designed to honor and appreciate both patients and caregivers while giving them some handy tools to use at home.

proACTIVE parkinsons project is sponsoring the support group and the wellness retreat. For information on Parkinson's Disease or about the Wellness Retreat, please call Sarah Johnson at [209] 296-2575 or visit their website at
