GIFTS, HOME DECOR AND MORE IN CHARMING SURROUNDINGS
A Review by Tim Dunn
interviewing Linda Meadows
The Creeky Cupboard in Sutter Creek is under new
ownership! Don and Linda Meadows purchased the store on January 1,
2011 and are continuing the high-quality customer service and
wonderful merchandise lines that the previous owners, Dorothy and
Al Trebes, were well known for. Linda states that, "The Creeky
Cupboard, located at 32 Main St., in Sutter Creek, is now open
seven days a week from 10-5, and customers will find gifts, home
décor, ladies’ accessories, and so much more.
Some familiar brand names carried in the Creeky
Cupboard are Bearington Bears baby items, Jody Coyote earrings, Mud
Pie baby items, Naked Bee lotion and skin care, Wind & Willow dips,
soups and salsas, and Tyler Candles, as well as Legacy, Carol’s
Rose Garden, Northern Exposure, and Pictura greeting cards. Great,
affordable purses can still be found, as well as the great line of
denim purses. Spring and Easter inventory has arrived, and new
merchandise arrives many times each week. There are locally made
jams and jellies, with the Jalapeno Pepper Jelly still the #1
favorite"!
A new line that has been added since Don and
Linda became the owners is Magnabilities. This is a wonderful line
of very affordable necklaces (with bracelets soon to arrive) that
allow the customer to create their own personal look and style. It
is ever-changing and there are endless possibilities! Don’t forget
to check out the always-popular watches, bracelets, and necklaces
that the Creeky Cupboard is known for. Never to be forgotten, there
are homemade dog biscuits for their furry friends. All donations
made for the dog biscuits will be donated to Amador County Animal
Control. The Creeky Cupboard is dog friendly, as long as your dog
is friendly!
Linda tells us that they had three children,
although one died shortly after birth and is the heart-warming
reason behind starting 'Afghans for Angels', the website address always
shown below her name on email correspondence. Their daughter lives
in Springfield, Missouri with her husband and three children;
Tyler, Liz and Megan. Their son served in the military and lives in
Oxnard, where he is currently employed. Although his active duty
was with the army in military intelligence, he recently joined the
Navy Reserves.

Linda and Don were partners in Sierra Rizing
Bakery when they lived in El Dorado County, and for over 20 years
she has participated in and organized craft shows. Linda says, with
a smile in her heart, that this is pretty much their dream place
and their retirement home in Sutter Creek. They can walk to work;
Don visits the post office on his lunch break each day while
working from home; first walking their golden retriever, Ruby, up
to visit her at the store while he gets the mail. Linda says,
"Other than our children and grandchildren living closer to us some
day, I can't imagine a more perfect life right now. And, no, I will
never fix the creaky front door!!" (laughing, in answer to Tim's
offer of WD40)
There is a lot to see in
this little store. Don and Linda invite you to drop by and see what
is old and what is new; while there, don’t forget to take a guess
at how many jelly beans are in the jar if you are there before
Easter! Come and see the wonderful array of merchandise and say hello!
